Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan's romantic secrets revealed

It was years ago. Standing alone on the balcony of a New York hotel, Abhishek Bachchan was seized with a desire to be with Aishwarya Rai and a wish to marry her. This candid recollection was shared by Abhishek himself on Oprah Winfrey’s talk show in which he and Ash appeared together.

“I was filming in New York for a movie…And I used to stand on the balcony of my hotel room and wish that, 'One day, wouldn't it be nice if I was together with her, married',” Abhishek revealed in a candid moment.

Abhishek’s wish was granted a few years later when he and Ash were in New York City for the premiere of their film Guru. Right after the premiere, Abhishek took her to the same balcony and popped the question.

“After the premiere, we were back in the hotel…So I took her to the very same balcony, and I asked her to marry me,” Abhishek disclosed even as Ash kept smiling sitting on the couch next to him.

The couple married in 2007 and started a new chapter of their life. Rather than living separately, they chose to live with Abhi’s parents Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.

Ash, who was dressed demurely in a sari for the show, told Oprah that living with in-laws is normal for Indian brides.

“It's normal…It's absolutely natural to us. … I lived with my parents before we got married, so it's a natural thing,” Ash said.

When quizzed about pregnancy, Ash recalled all the rumours.

“I have been proclaimed pregnant already a couple of times. I'm like, ‘Okay, is that a hint?’...People would be watching every little bulge, and I'm like, ‘Oh my God. If you're not in shape, you're pregnant’,” Ash giggled.

It was Ash’s second time on Oprah’s couch. The last time she appeared on the show, she made Oprah wear a sari.
