Gphone Becomes Reality With Google’s Android

Google Launches Open Source Mobile Applications Platform

Google recently announced the launch of Android, an open source Mobile Applications Platform. In August I wrote about rumors of Google getting ready to launch the Gphone. Well it turned out that Google was not so focussed on releasing their own branded mobile (for now), rather trying to provide the operating system and applications development platform that could potentially run on mobile devices across the globe.

New Gphone enabled devices expected soon!

New mobile devices using Android are expected in mid 2008. A number of countries with huge markets are said to be introducing mobile devices using Google’s mobile software, including China, Japan, Spain, Germany and Italy. Companies such as Motorola and Samsung are believed to be among mobile device manufacturers who will be releasing phones with Google’s Android software. With China’s market in excess of 300 million mobile users, Google’s Android is set to take off and be a hit with mobile device software developers across the globe.

Google Gphone Coming Soon

Google could offer self branded mobile devices in the near future. Google will surely have taken note of the impact the iPhone has had on Apple’s bottom line. Google could further increase this new source of mobile advertising by providing it’s services via it’s own purpose built mobile devices. The handset sales would be a bonus!
