The 12th Rajiv Gandhi Awards ceremony took place in Mumbai on August 19 and actress Katrina Kaif is one of the recipients of the award. The moment was unbelievable for Katz.

Katrina said, “When I heard I am a recipient, I took aback. Then it all started to sink in. For me, any honor that comes is a sign of being recognised as part of the system. I was close to tears, actually, because just three years ago I was a virtual outsider trying to find a foothold in Bollywood. And here I am now getting the Rajiv Gandhi Award for my contribution to the world of entertainment. I’m ecstatic.”

Maharashtra MLC and Mumbai Congress Vice-President Charan Singh Sapra began the awards in 1995. The award is given to achievers who contributed to the progress of 21st century India. Talking about the awards Sapra said, “Which, in a way, is a salute to the passion and energy of the recipients for keeping alive Rajiv Gandhi’s dream of a progressive India. He was the architect of modern India and the awards ceremony is synonymous with India’s future.”

Among others who has received the honour includes young entrepreneur Rohit Kochhar, industrialist Vineet Jain, Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra and Dr Narendra Jadhav. The awards ceremony will telecasted on Sony at 8 pm on Sunday.
