“Blind Side” performance yours to own.Sandra Bullock’s Oscar-winning

“Blind Side” performance yours to own.Sandra Bullock’s Oscar-winning BY SEAN O’CONNELL

This should have been Sandra Bullock’s shining moment. The beloved A-lister was supposed to be riding a wave of euphoria following her recent Oscar win. Instead, she has had to deal with a humiliating, public sex scandal that could rip her marriage to motorcyclist Jesse James in half.

But for today, talk surrounding Bullock can return to her work, as her Oscar-winning turn in “The Blind Side” hits DVD shelves courtesy of a Warner Bros. release.

‘The Blind Side’
Bullock was equal parts steely and sympathetic playing Leigh Anne Tuohy, a Tennessee socialite who disrupts her suburban family’s warm cocoon when she adopts “Big” Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron), an underprivileged African-American teenager.

John Lee Hancock’s inspirational drama recycles some of the charitable messages we’ve seen in other religion-based films – and believe me, “Blind Side” waves the banner of clean, Christian living as much as it strives to heal our country’s racial divide. But Bullock’s portrayal of a loving, colorblind mother – and the strong support she receives from Aaron, Tim McGraw and the rest of the “Blind Side” cast – help transform this teachable moment into an accessible, mainstream package.

The “Blind Side” Blu-ray, released by Warner Bros., includes several exclusive extras that are worth a look. I got the most out of an in-depth interview with the real Michael Oher, a defensive player for the Baltimore Ravens who allowed his life story to be related (and marginally altered) fro the good of the film. Bullock goes one-on-one with Tuohy for another revealing interview, and Hancock contributes a conversation with “Blind Side” author Michael Lewis.

Deleted scenes continue the movie-specific extras, which expand to feature the moving story of young actor Quinton Aaron and a “Behind the Scenes” look at the process of bringing all of the big name SEC football coaches to the set for celebrated cameos.

The movie – **1/2 out of 4
The Blu-ray – *** out of 4
