SXSW: Rodriguez introduces key ‘Predators’ collaborators at an exclusive screening

SXSW: Rodriguez introduces key ‘Predators’ collaborators at an exclusive screening
BY TODD GILCHRIST

On Friday night, while the streets of Austin teemed with carousing co-eds and festival attendees, Robert Rodriguez hosted an exclusive screening of footage from his upcoming production of Predators, a reimagining-cum-sequel to the 1987 action film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The director, who was enlisted by Fox 2000 to produce a new film to be directed by relative newcomer Nimrod Antal (Armored), screened two versions of what one presumes will be the film’s theatrical trailer and fielded questions from the capacity crowd at Austin’s storied Alamo Ritz Theater.

Check out audio of Rodriguez’ introduction by clicking below:
Following Rodriguez’ greeting to the crowd, he brought director Nimrod Antal to the stage, where the two of them discussed what creative and commercial mandates they faced as they tried to resuscitate the Predator film series.
And before offering attendees the opportunity to ask questions about this upcoming interpretation of the Predator mythology, Rodriguez introduced none other than Greg Nicotero, who not only created all of the creatures used in their film, but was the creator of the original Predator used in the ’87 film, and surprised the crowd by bringing its still-functioning head on stage.
Hollywood News has already posted footage from the event that debuted simultaneously online. But stay tuned for more in-depth information about Predators and other events and screenings at South by Southwest!
